6. Assign a Dress Buddy: Your maid of honor or trusted bridesmaid can be your “dress wrangler” for the day. 9. Don’t Wait to Clean It: Even if your gown looks spotless, hidden stains (like clear soda, sweat, or champagne) can yellow over time. Be sure they’re experienced with wedding gowns and can handle specialty fabrics, beadwork, and lace.

This process typically includes cleaning, treating the fabric, and boxing the gown in an acid-free, archival-quality container. Ask your cleaner if they offer preservation services or can refer you to a trusted partner.

11. Storage Matters: Once preserved, keep the box in a cool, dry area. No attics, garages, or damp basements. Avoid stacking heavy items on top, and check on it every few years to make sure nothing is shifting or discoloring. If your heart’s set on taking it out one day to show your family or wear it again, handle it with clean, dry hands or white cotton gloves.
